TSD Health and Wellness Committee

In recognition of the critical role schools play in promoting student

health, preventing obesity, and combating problems associated with poor nutrition and physical inactivity, Congress passed the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act in 2004, which required all local education agencies (LEAs) that participate in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program to develop and implement a local school wellness policy. This legislation placed the responsibility of developing a wellness policy at the local level so that the individual needs of each LEA could be addressed. The committee meets throughout the school year and is comprised of district administrators, health officials, food service directors, school board members, teachers, parents, and students.

Tuscarora School District conducts a triennial assessment of its Health and Wellness Plan. The due date for publishing our report for this cycle is June 2021. The report, which can be accessed by clicking this link, shows the results of a survey of key stakeholders within the district and provides the basis for improving upon both the communication of board policy to key stakeholders and also increasing awareness of the district's Health and Wellness plan.
