COPPA NOTICE

To parents of school-aged children under the age of 13:

Our district utilizes many online tools, computer software applications and web-based services provided by third parties to supplement the education of our children. In order for our students to use these programs and services, there are times when student information might be requested by the service provider, such as the students name, a username, a password or an email address if applicable (note: email for elementary students is restricted to ONLY messages to/from our tusge.org domain).

Under federal law entitled the Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), these websites and content providers must provide notification to you and obtain your consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. But instead of every web site and online service contacting you personally, the law permits your school to act as the parents agent and can consent to the use of this student information on the parents behalf with your permission. We must provide you with a list of programs we may use throughout the school year as well as privacy policies and terms of service for each site. A complete list of the programs with their privacy policies and terms of service can be at the link below:

COPPA Sites List

Any additional web-based educational programs and services we use that are not currently on the list will be accompanied by a separate request for parent permission to comply with the law. If you have an objection to any of the tools after reviewing the list, please submit a written letter to your childs building principal with an opt-out request for the specific tools to which you object. Your child will not be permitted to use those tools and an alternative will be provided.
